Placement Testing

ACCUPLACER Testing

Effective placement testing programs have been shown to be related to increased student retention and academic success. At Goodwill Technical College, the ACCUPLACER is used to assess readiness for program level courses in Medical Assistant, Medical Billing and Coding, and IT Support Specialist programs. First-time applicants entering Goodwill Technical College who do not have college credit must take the ACCUPLACER unless one of the exemptions mentioned below is met. Applicants are required to score 256 on the math and reading sections of the test. IT Support Specialist majors are not required to take the math section of the ACCUPLACER. Students who do not make the required scores will be placed in and required to successfully complete learning support courses in basic literacy and/or math to upgrade their skills prior to enrolling in upper-level courses in their program of study. It is recommended that ACCUPLACER be taken as early as possible to allow time for retest if the desired score is not achieved and to meet registration deadlines.
